I just recently read an article that states the United States Army is suffering a shortage of Warrant Officers. One of those positions that the Army needs drastically is the Army 140A Warrant Officer: command control systems technician. So, in today’s post, I am going to examine this Warrant Officer position. I will tell you about the command control systems technician including their duties and responsibilities. I will also explain the requirements to become an Army 140A, and I will also explain the training you will have to take to fill this needed position. Army 140A Warrant Officer Job Description
The Army 140A Warrant Officer has a wide range in his/her job description. They are first and foremost a leader. The Army 140A is an expert in computer repair and management. He/she understands the operation of any and all hardware and software the Army uses, with their primary mission being air defense control systems. The Army 140A is able to adapt to the various situations that are going on around them and still perform their duties.
Army 140A Warrant Officer Duties and Responsibilities
As stated in the job description, the responsibilities of the Army 140A can be numerous. Below I will post the most common duties and responsibilities for this individual:
Manage and maintain joint data link operations, command computers, control computers and communication computers along with intelligence systems that are associated with Forward Area Air Defense, Joint Tactical Ground Station, Patriot Battery Command Post, Air Defense Air Management and the Air Missile Defense Planning Control System.
Configuring Air and Missile Defense Command and Control Systems.
Instruction in computer operation and/or maintenance.
Coordinating and supervising maintenance and programming procedures with Army computer equipment.
Advises Commander on system capabilities, options and configuration of Army Command and Control systems.
Analyzes and estimates priorities in regards to repair based on the fix or fight Army criteria.
Responsible for crew certifications and material readiness.
Capable of serving as detachment Commander if need be.
Analyzing and interpreting data used to support operations.
Able to serve in other Army positions such as staff positions, instructor or career manager.
This is just a small list of the many responsibilities and duties an Army 140A will have.
Requirements and Prerequisites to Become an Army 140A Warrant Officer
There are certain prerequisites and requirements you must meet to become an Army 140A Warrant Officer. They are:
Be a United States citizen
Have 5 years terms of service and be a Staff Sergeant or higher
Hold MOS 14E, 14G, 14H, 14S, 15Q or 29E and have 3+ years experience with Unix, tactical communication or computer repair
Have a Mech or Elec Score of 100 or higher
Have a minimum of 2 years leadership experience in a feeder MOS that is documented by NCOERs
Submit all NCOERs with the majority reflecting outstanding and superior duty ratings
Have a minimum of 6 semester hours of English and 6 semester hours of math from an accredited college or university
Have a written recommendation from a Senior Warrant Officer who holds Army 140A
Must be fully deployable
Must meet all physical standards by passing the APFT and height/weight
Must provide certificate of completion for Distance Learning (DL) Course JT-101 Link 16 JTIDS Course
Training to Become an Army 140A Warrant Officer
If you have all the prerequisites fulfilled, and you long to become an Army 140A Warrant Officer, the first step will be attending Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Alabama. This is a 7 week course that will train you to be a leader, trainer, mentor and an all-around expert in your field of expertise. There will be a field leadership exercise, and a lot of classroom training.
After you have successfully completed and passed WOCS, you will travel to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for an in depth training in Command Control Systems. You will delve deeply into the Army’s computer systems, and by the time you are finished, you will know the hardware and software like the back of your hand.
Follow up training will be a huge aspect of your job as an Army 140A Warrant Officer: Command Control Systems Technician. Technology is an ever changing beast. It will be your responsibility to keep abreast of all new developments with the technological aspects of your position.

The experience and education you receive from having a position like this can set you up for many possibilities when you leave Army service.
